Tony Walton, the team manager for the New Zealand team explains how their travel plans were disrupted two hours into their flight with an engine problem. They were forced to return back to Auckland.

On 6 July 1985, after a two and half hour delay, the New Zealand team finally left at quarter-past eleven that evening for Los Angeles. After flying for two hours towards Fiji, the plane had to return back to Auckland due to an engine problem. They landed at 2:30am and stayed at a hotel at the Auckland airport. After a 15 hour wait, the team finally left Auckland at 5.30pm on Sunday afternoon. There was a stop-over in Hawaii. Footage shows the team at the Honolulu hotel and on the plane headed for Los Angeles.
