Some of the items featured in the St Dominic’s Catholic Deaf Centre’s ‘Deaf Southern Star’ (Vol. 36, No. 3, 2014) newsletter:
- Freyberg High School in Palmerston North has had Deaf teenagers since February 1975. That means we will celebrate forty years of Deaf teenagers at Freyberg High School next year. Sue McConachy was the first teacher of the Deaf. Today we call our unit the Deaf Centre. Terry O’Brien is the present teacher of the Deaf. He is supported by Jackie Davidson, she the Deaf resource person.
- An exciting event on the horizon next year will be a conference in Auckland, organized by Judith Mason for chaplains, pastoral workers, leaders and interpreters working in Catholic Deaf Ministry in New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific.
