Catholic Deaf Newsletter: April 1978 (Vol. 1, No. 1)
This was the first issue of the New Zealand Catholic Deaf newsletter for Deaf people and their families. It was later christened as ‘Ephpheta’, and later changed its name to the ‘Deaf Southern Star’. Some of the items featured in the ‘Catholic Deaf Newsletter: April 1978 (Vol. 1, No. 1)’:
- The first issue was published by the Catholic Deaf Committee, and hopes to make this quarterly newsletter for all who are interested in the Catholic Faith and have a hearing impairment themselves, or have a hearing impaired member of their family. Readers are asked to please submit their ideas of a name for the newsletter.
- Father Brian Wegrzyn talks about how he became involved with the Deaf. The formation of the Catholic Deaf Committee is also covered, with its Chairman being Danny Beech; its Secretary Jackie Koat, and Treasurer Elizabeth Hines.
- The 1978 programme for the Adult Catholic Deaf people is listed. Anyone wishing to stay a night in Palmerston North on the occasion of its monthly gatherings can be billeted.
