Ephpheta: December 1979 (Vol. 2, No. 4)
Some of the items featured in ‘Ephpheta: December 1979 (Vol. 2, No. 4)’:
- In August, Elizabeth and Bill Katu hired a movie projector and asked some people to come to their place to watch two films about Gallaudet College for the Deaf in America. The films were very interesting and everyone enjoyed them.
- As of March 1980, the Auckland Catholic Deaf Association and the Religious Education Office in Auckland will be the editors and publishers of Ephpheta.
- More news from Auckland – at the August gathering, Tony Oswald, Brian Henry and Peter Tait were made very welcome by members of the Auckland Catholic Deaf Association. In the afternoon Brian Henry showed us two films of the Canberra Conference delegates trip to Australia, and the reunion for deaf ex-pupils of St. Dominic’s School for the Deaf which everyone enjoyed seeing. Our Association had a stall at the Flea Market organised by the Auckland Deaf Society at its Centre in Balmoral in September. Much to our surprise, we made $80 profit.
- Maureen Seth’s sister, whilst travelling Holland, bought Maureen an alarm clock with a vibrating disc attached to wake up deaf people. Maureen says that it has given her a large slice of independence and considers it the best birthday present ever!
- Shaun Fahey drew the cover image of the December issue of Ephpheta.
