- It’s been ten years since the first issue of “Ephpheta” was published! The idea of a newsletter for deaf Catholics was born from a discussion between Daniel Beech and Father Brian Wegrzyn in Palmerston North, and it was decided to name the newsletter “Ephpheta” which means “Be Opened” and was taken from the Bible story of Jesus healing a deaf man.
- Ngaire writes about the Auckland Deaf Indoor Bowling trip to Dunedin to play bowls for three days in the NZ Deaf Indoor Bowling Tournament. Ngaire won three cups – one for Ladies’ Aggregate, one for Open Pairs with Rae Oxspring. The Auckland team won the Jerome Trophy.
