  • The Ephpheta Journal has completed its eighth year of publishing, and is Lorraine Nilsson’s last editorial. The journal will be published in Auckland from now on. An editor has yet to be appointed. 
  • Deaf trio join surf patrol – three deaf teenagers qualified for patrol duty with the Sumner Surf Lifesaving Club this season. All three are pupils of the Van Asch School for the Deaf in Sumner. 
  • Did you know that Brugger Industries in Levin employs five deaf people: JIm Henry, Brian Henry, Martin Holtham, Denis Smith and now Abe Hetariki. 
  • A Deaf Leadership Training Programme was hosted in Hamilton
