Deaf Southern Star: 2013 (Vol. 35, No. 3)
Some of the items featured in the St Dominic’s Catholic Deaf Centre’s ‘Deaf Southern Star’ (Vol. 35, No. 3, 2013) newsletter:
- It will be a double blockbuster for Queens Birthday Weekend 2014, with two events planned – the St Dominic’s School for the Deaf 60th Anniversary Reunion and the 1964 rubella group will turn 50.
- Jackie Overall and Evelyn Seymour-East are doing the Introduction to Theology study this year and have tutorials with David Loving-Molloy each month to help them understand the readings.
- Big developments have included the completion of the first draft DVD of the NZSL Missalette translation. The recording involved David Loving-Molloy and Evelyn Seymour-East in a priest-role/people-role format.
- There was an important meeting in Lower Hutt in June for the Deaf Mental Health services in the Wellington region. It was well attended by Deaf consumers, Deaf workers, Deaf Aotearoa representatives, mental health service providers and representatives from the local DHBs. After a very informative and helpful morning of talks, the DHB reps put a huge dampener on proceedings in the afternoon by saying there was no funding for the service.
