  • Deaf Awareness Week this year is being held from 6 March to 12 March. The World Deaf Games are being held in Christchurch in January 1989, just after the 45th Jubilee and final reunion at St. Dominic’s School for the Deaf in Feilding.
  • A memorial service was held at Elizabeth Katu home on 16 December 1987, for Auckland ex-pupils and teachers of St Dominic’s School for the Deaf to get together and share memories of Sister Stanislaus who died at the end of November. 
  • A Council Meeting of the New Zealand Catholic Deaf Association was held at St Dominic’s School for the Deaf National Resource Centre, Feilding, on Saturday 12 March 1988. The meeting was a practical one dealing with the following topics: Constitution, Deaf Encounter Christ, Youth/Christian Living Weekend.
  • The Manawatu Deaf Cricket Club visited Auckland to play a friendly match against the Auckland Deaf Society cricket team. Manawatu beat Auckland by 194 runs to 40 runs.
