New Zealand Catholic Deaf Newsletter: August 1978 (Vol. 1, No. 2)

Some of the items featured in the ‘New Zealand Catholic Deaf Newsletter: August 1978 (Vol. 1, No. 2)’:

  • The first edition of the Catholic Deaf Newsletter was such a success that it was requested to become a national newsletter for the four dioceses of the Catholic Church in New Zealand. Readers suggest potential names for the newsletter.
  • This issue is dedicated to the reunion of ex-pupils and teachers of St Dominic’s School for the Deaf, to mark the 25th Anniversary of the school’s opening in Feilding. The weekend of 29-30 July was chosen because it coincided with the programme of Manawatu Deaf Society.
  • Daniel Beech gives a demonstration on how the telephone deaf communicator operates to the Catholic Women’s League in Palmerston North. It surprised the members with the high cost of a unit – $605.
  • Father Brian Wegrzyn suggests that Ephpheta Sunday is celebrated on Sundays, like they are in Australia.
