Kelston School for the Deaf had a rugby team that played in the secondary school Grade 2C division, coming third in the 1958 season. The team played on Saturday mornings and won many games, beating several teams with bigger, heavier and older boys. Kelston can be seen performing the haka.

The game was against St Kentigern College (blue/white stripes), which Kelston (maroon) won 16 to 0. The Kelston boys, wearing maroon can be seen playing on the lower rugby field at Kelston.
