HomeVideosSports Convention: Trip to Motuihe Domain

As part of the 1956 Deaf Societies Sports Convention held in Auckland, Deaf people take a day trip to Motuihe Domain, on Motuihe Island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf. On the island, people swim, picnic and participate in a tug-of-war competition between Deaf Societies: Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The competition was in its second year.

The Tug-of-War banners were gifted from the Wellington Deaf Society, and designed by the then President of the Wellington Deaf Society, H.M.Williams, to commemorate the 75th Jubilee of the Sumner Deaf School in 1955.
