The 1953 New New Zealand Deaf Sports Convention is held in Christchurch and the Auckland Deaf sports team travels to Christchurch via train, a trip which takes almost 15 hours, stopping by Wellington. There they check out the cable car and Wellington zoo. In Christchurch, sports featured include shot-put, athletics, and long jump. The group visits Christchurch city, including the well-known Christchurch Cathedral, located in the centre of the city.
