Ngaire Doherty, the Team Manageress for the Auckland team at the 1990 New Zealand Deaf Games in Auckland gives a report. Auckland won the Aotearoa Turi Shield. Fetuao Valesi was awarded the Kays Cup for Most Outstanding Sportsperson. The Miss Deaf NZ contest and dinner was a great success with 426 guests joining in for the evening.
Sign Language Dictionary Committee will have a meeting on 7 November 1990. It will discuss the national meeting of the NZSL dictionary, with a letter from Pat Dugdale, Chairperson, National Editorial Board, with minutes from the national meeting made available.

Compiling ‘The Story of the Auckland Deaf Society Inc 1937 – 1987’ book

John was keen to know about the history of Auckland Deaf Society, and upon the approval of the Board of Management, he compiled a book two years before the 50th Anniversary of ADS. It took him three years to finish the book, and it was released one year after the anniversary.

Dictionary for the language of the deaf

Nearly quarter of a million dollars in sponsorship has been raised for the NZSL dictionary, a joint effort by the University and the New Zealand Association of the Deaf.

Advanced computer data base backs NZ’s first sign language dictionary

History through Young Eyes: Interview with Owen Gibbons

Former Auckland Deaf Society President and life member, Owen Gibbons says that one of his best memories was travelling to the World Deaf Games as part of the New Zealand Deaf basketball mens team. His eyes “literally popped out at what he saw over there!”
