A meeting regarding broadcasting fees and TV subtitles was held on 5 September 1990. It was a great success with 30 members attending to share their feelings and ideas. A submission has been prepared to send to NZAD to present to NZ On Air on behalf of Deaf people.
A local Auckland Sign Language Dictionary committee is to be formed. A meeting on 7 November 1990 is open to any members who would like to support the Auckland Sign Language Committee.

Black magic hat

Shaun Fahey was wearing the right hat when Black Magic won the America's Cup – but he couldn't throw it in the air to celebrate. His hat is actually a replica of the New Zealand boat, 71cm long and 110cm high, complete with seascape, dolphin, buoy, fish and an array of sponsors' stickers.

The modern NZSL dictionary is launched

The modern dictionary of New Zealand Sign Language has been launched, and the 'Tonight' crew visit Kelston Deaf Education Centre to see Deaf students and their NZSL tutors making good use of the resource.

Compiling ‘The Story of the Auckland Deaf Society Inc 1937 – 1987’ book

John was keen to know about the history of Auckland Deaf Society, and upon the approval of the Board of Management, he compiled a book two years before the 50th Anniversary of ADS. It took him three years to finish the book, and it was released one year after the anniversary.
