Basketball Singlet: New Zealand Deaf Men’s Indoor Basketball, 10th International Games for the Deaf, Washington D.C.

A faded black singlet with an embroidered white fern and the letters, ‘NZ’ in-between. This singlet was donated to Manawatu Deaf Society by one of its life member, Keith Gordon. Keith from Manawatu played for the New Zealand Deaf Men’s Indoor Basketball team in the 10th International Games for the Deaf, Washington D.C., U.S.A. during 27 June to 3rd July 1965. A team of 17 athletes attended the Games. The men’s indoor basketball team played five games, losing big to U.S.A., Finland and Canada. However their games against Belgium and Israel were very close, losing to Israel by only 54-45. The New Zealand men’s indoor basketball team placed sixth.
