Auckland Deaf Society Life Member: John McRae’s pin and badge collection of national and international Deaf sport events
A black bucket hat with pins and badges such as one from the 1961 World Games for the Deaf in Helsinki, Finland, the XIV World Games for the Deaf In Cologne, Germany (1981), the CISS Congresso in Italy 1983, and the Los Angeles World Games for the Deaf (1985). Attached to the hat is John’s registration for the 1981 Games as well.
John McRae participated in two sports in the 1961 World Games for the Deaf – basketball (6th placing) and wrestling (freestyle in the 67-73kg division, with a silver medal), and in the Greco-Roman 67-73kg section, with a bronze medal.
The hat also contains John’s LIFE MEMBER badge for Auckland Deaf Society, along with his NZ Deaf Indoor Bowls Fed. Champion pins for CH. FOURS 1974; CH. FOURS 1981. The hat is in Auckland Deaf Society’s possession. John was born in 1927 and passed away on 6 September 2006.
