Seven to make debut at ball for the deaf

Tonight seven young girls will dance the debutante waltz without hearing the music.

They are to make their debut at a ball to be held by the Auckland Deaf Society at the Auckland Deaf Welfare Centre in Balmoral Road.

The girls have come from many parts of the country to be presented to the Mayor and Mayoress of Auckland, Mr and Mrs D. M. Robinson, and to take their part in the 25th jubilee celebrations of the society.

The girls are: Janet Wilson (Kaeo), Sally Crombie (Te Awamutu), Hilda Goodhue (Whangarei), Jennifer Martin (Onehunga), Carole Cloyne (Rongotea, Manawatu), Pat Sefton (Grey Lynn) and Katherine Mills (Claudelands, Hamilton). Most of them will have deaf partners.

Guests at the ball will be received by the president of the society, Mr K. Brain, and among the officials will be Mr Dennis Nathan, president of the Friends of the Deaf Society, and Mrs Nathan.
