Heather talks about the need for Deaf children and their families to have access to language early in life on 'The Video Dispatch' for Deaf Awareness Week in 1986.

The Deaf Awareness Week episode screened on television 25 September 1986 on ‘The Video Dispatch’. It was an after school current affairs show that was on television from 1980 to 1990.

Te Aro School in Wellington was one of the first Deaf unit classes established at local schools, alongside Linwood North in Christchurch in the early 1960s.
