This youth camp, took place at Forest Lakes, Otaki, from 21-28 January 1996. Youth aged between 12 and 18 years old participated in many different events such as conquering the confidence course, abseiling, rock-climbing, team-building activities, water-based activities and storytelling/drama. There is lots of youth signing to camera, shyness does not seem to be a problem!

Keethan shares his experience at the first National Deaf Youth Camp in Cambridge, where he truly immersed himself in the Deaf community after moving to New Zealand from Sri Lanka. He reflects on the impact of the camp, how he mastered the infamous ‘Deaf nod,’ and how the experience helped shape his leadership skills and active involvement in the Deaf community.
