Eunike Mose, a profoundly deaf Samoan high school student, and her mother Heather, talk about the challenges of being Deaf, particularly in relation to the family’s Pasifika heritage, and education. Heather shares that she wants Eunike to be involved in the Deaf community as well as the Pasifika community, and has established a trust to help provide support to Pasifika Deaf and their families, and connect them to general Deaf services. We see Eunike receiving lessons, along with peer Hinal Keshav, in the Deaf Unit at Kelston Girls College, from teacher Margaret Carr. Eunike signs off the news clip with a message for viewers: “I don’t let my Deafness hold me back. Don’t let it hold you back.”
