Outfits for Deaf Games
The 17-strong team will compete in the International Deaf Games in Washington from June 27 to July 3.
The men’s uniform is a black reefer jacket, grey slacks, cream panama hat with a green band and a green bag.
The women are wearing black, blazer-style jackets, straight grey skirts, white turban-style hats with black bands. They also have a green bag.
The team is made up of 15 men and two women whose ages range from 19 to 53.
Five supporters, husbands of wives of team members will accompany the party which leaves Whenuapai next Thursday.
A total of £8700 was raised for the tour. Included in this figure was a £2000 grant from the Golden Kiwi lottery fund.
Twenty nations represented by 810 competitors will take part in the games. It will be the first time a New Zealand team has participated.
The team’s manager, Mr S. E. N. Smith, will also attend world conference for the deaf, being held in Washington at the same time.
