Auckland Deaf Society newsletter: November 1989
Some of the items featured in Auckland Deaf Society’s November 1989 newsletter:
- A ‘Deaf Action’ group was formed on 17 October 1989 at the Deaf Centre. It has 14 members. The aims of the Deaf Action group are to lobby for Deaf rights, facts/plan actions, group discussion, liaison with NZ Association for the Deaf through ADS Board of Management, open to any interested Deaf people and their supporters.
- Membership fees for 1989-90 will be $35.00 per person. $55.00 per married couple. $27 per country member. $23 per superannuants and beneficiaries. All subject to a discount of $5 if paid before 28 February 1990.
- Robert Algie passed away on 4 October 1989 at 33 years old after a long illness with cancer. He went to the Cologne World Deaf Games as a wrestler and won two silver medals.
