First National Deaf Womens’ Sevens Tournament
On an Easter Friday afternoon, 22 April 2000, for the first time in history the National Deaf Women’s Seven Tournament was played between the Southern and Central teams at the Canterbury Rugby League Stadium.

Deaf Health Stories in NZSL
This project explores the experiences of Deaf New Zealanders in accessing healthcare and health information. 40 Deaf people from around New Zealand share their stories about barriers in this setting as well as strategies they have used in advocating for their right to access information, communication, and make informed decisions.

Happy Halloween: Manawatu Deaf Society
With 31st October falling on a Saturday in 1998, Manawatu Deaf Society takes the opportunity to host a Halloween party! The kids in particular look genuinely terrifying, with prizes for the best dressed child and adult!

Deaf seek warm hall
When Manawatu Deaf Society members meet at their clubrooms in Awapuni, they huddle deep in coats and scarves and gloves. Their 22-year-old hall is icebox cold in winter, and members say the difficulty and expense of heating it keeps older society members at home, away from enjoying the society's sociability and events.

Third national Deaf Womens’ Sevens Tournament
The Northern Deaf womens’ team wins the third sevens tournament, comfortably beats Central 60-0 and Southern 34-0. Southern beats Central 34-5.
