Hostel for deaf out of funds, faces closure
Balmoral’s Deaf Welfare Centre will be forced to close its hostel next week unless it gets financial help.
General manager Eric Lewis said the centre had only enough money left to pay this week’s wage bill.
The centre has a fulltime staff of five and 15 deaf boarders ranging in age from 19 to the sixties.
So far the old people’s village in conjunction with the centre has not been affected by the financial difficulties. The village is part-financed by pensions and benefits received by the seven residents.
