Deaf Runner Hopes Panel Will Listen

The deaf Lynndale athlete N. Coventry ran a special six-mile time trial in the very good time of 32m 8.2s on the Lovelock track on Saturday afternoon.

Coventry, who was endeavouring to gain selection for the forthcoming Deaf Olympics, which will be held in Yugoslavia in July, is not quite certain exactly what time the three national deaf selectors required.

Converted to the metric equivalent distance of 10,000 metres, Coventry’s time would have been 33m 12.2s.

The selectors will confer during this week and after consultations and comparisons with overseas times for the 10,000 metres run by deaf athletes this year will make a decision on whether Coventry has attained a standard worthy of selection.
