Deaf athletes for World Games

These five young men are members of what is believed to be the first team of deaf athletes to represent New Zealand at an all-deaf World Games. From Wellington, they are touring the North Island in their car in a fund-raising bid to help finance their trip to the games. They will compete in indoor basketball, table tennis and 100, 200, and 400-metre events as well as the 400-metre relay. The games are being held in Helsinki, Finland, during August. From left they are O. Rubils (manager), R. Mackie, L. Wray (front), R. Cunniffe and D. Cunniffe.
