All-Round Swimming Champion: John Takes the Hunt Cup

John recalls winning the ‘Auckland Deaf Society Hunt Cup: All Round Men’s Swimming Championship’ in 1971 at age 23. The competition was held at Kelston School for the Deaf, with events including the 100-yard freestyle, 220-yard backstroke, and 220-yard breaststroke. The 100-yard race, about 91.85 metres, meant four laps of the pool. John earned the highest overall points and proudly took home the cup.

Kelston Hosts ADS All Round Men’s Swimming Championship

In 1971, Kevin won the Auckland Deaf Society Hunt Cup for the All Round Men’s Swimming Championship. The event took place during summer at the Kelston School for the Deaf swimming pool. It was not a fancy pool, but it did the job. Laps were measured to meet the distances for 100 Yards Freestyle, 220 Yards Backstroke, and 220 Yards Breaststroke.
