Italians win volleyball
The New Zealand volleyball team was missing its top five players when it came up against the Italians in its first match in the World Games for the Deaf today.
New Zealand went down to the more experienced Italians, 3-0, failing to score any points.
Five of the team’s top players were unable to attend the games because they could not afford the $900 which each team member had to pay to attend.
Some members of the team have only been playing volleyball for a couple of months.
This is the first time New Zealand has competed in volleyball at a World Deaf Games.
Earlier today, Finland beat Germany 3-0.
