Building drive by deaf club

A Wellington club for the deaf has started a drive to raise funds to build clubrooms.

The Wellington Deaf Society at present meets in an old house at the top of Willis Street.

But the house is scheduled for demolition in two years to make way for a motorway development.

Club members, many of whom are tradesmen, want to build the clubrooms themselves. They hope the building can be made big enough to house a squash court or a badminton court.

The club is looking for support for their building drive from deaf people and people who can hear. Anyone who can help can ring 736-921.
