Friends of the Deaf work to build a float to enter into the Auckland Carnival float parade in 1956, an event that they had won the previous year. The float building took place at 162-164 Balmoral Road, Balmoral, Auckland where the new Auckland Deaf Society building is being be built. Friends of the Deaf were instrumental in raising the funds to build the Auckland Deaf Welfare Centre, and have put up a sign outside the property seeking donations to help them fundraise to cover the cost of the new building. The Carnival, at which the Friends of the Deaf had a stall, featured the float parade, and marching bands.
