We hope that in creating the SignDNA archive, you can see the value of these films in witnessing the long and rich history of the Deaf community in NZ. These films are the only evidence of our Deaf culture and sign language growing over time, and gives us a sense not just of where we stand but where we have come from.
Many of these films are in boxes in someone’s attic, and risk being thrown away, or just being left to dissolve. Deaf history needs your help now to locate these films.
If you have films you would like to donate, or you know of where a film might be that we can follow up on, please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org
